New Projects From Team Starkid: Twisted!

Team Starkid will always be coming up with new and crazy ideas for shows and they have come up with yet another one. Starkid will present their new musical "Twisted" this summer. If you didn't guess by the title, it is going to be like the musical Wicked. Twisted is going to be a new telling of the Disney classic, Aladdin! Team Starkid are going to perform Aladdin from the perspective of Jafar, the Sultans Royal Vizier. Now, there are rumors going around as to who is going to play the lead man. My pick to play Jafar has to be Brian Holden, it is always great seeing him play the bad guy in Starkid's musicals. My pick to play Genie has to be Joe Walker, just because he would look great in that outfit! Here is Team Starkid's Teaser Trailer for Twisted, enjoy!

Beyond YouTube

If you are a Team Starkid fan, you know that not everything that they do is on YouTube. Some members of Team Starkid have gone on to do many different things. If you are a Glee fan, you most likely know who Darren Criss is, you know, Blaine, Kurt's (ex) boyfriend. Little do people know, but Darren is one of the creators of Team Starkid and has played Harry Potter in all three Potter musicals. Sadly, Darren is very busy with Glee to perform in many new shows, but he is always there for the group and Starkid fans will always remember him as Harry. Another member of Team Starkid that has gone off into stardom (kind of) is Joey Richter. Joey has played Ron Weasly in all of the Harry Potter musicals and Bug in the musical Starship. Joey has been in about 4 or 5 episodes of the Disney Channel show Jessie as Officer Peaty. Joey has also recently been in an episode of Glee as a member of the new group at Nyada, the Adams Apples. A few other members of Team Starkid are now starting to get themselves out there. Jaime Lyn Beatty and Dylan Saunders (Ginny and Dumbledore in the Potter Musicals) are each starting the make their own music. Joe Moses is also doing his own comedy show "Joe Moses One Man Showses." Starkid isn't all about making funny musicals and putting them up on YouTube, they are about helping their friends achieve their life long dreams of being famous.

Musical Summary/Review: A Very Potter Musical

     Starkid got there start when they created there first musical, "A Very Potter Musical." The musical is a parody based on the 4th, 6th, and 7th Harry Potter books. "A Very Potter Musical" is based as Harry's 4th year of Hogwarts, but things go wrong when the new defense against the dark arts teacher, Professor Quirell, comes and resurrects an old tournament, the house cup tournament. This tournament is when one boy or girl from each house competes for the house cup and for eternal fame and glory (but Harry already has that). The competitors from each house were: Cho Chang from Ravenclaw, Cedric Diggory from Hufflepuff, and Draco Malfoy from Slytherin. Throughout the year, Harry has to complete three tasks to win the house cup tournament. The first, is to fight a dragon! While the other competitors got nice, cute dragons like Figment, Mushu, and Puff, Harry got stuck with the Hungarian Horntail (the most terrifying thing you will ever see). It's no worry for the supermegafoxyawesomehot (Starkid made up word) Harry Potter. He serenades the dragon with a song to make him fall asleep, then beats the dragon. After that, Hogwarts holds its annual dance, the Yule Ball. The ball doesn't go as planned for Harry and Cedric, but goes just the way Quirell wanted it to. If you have seen the movies or read the books,you would have figured out by now that Voldemort is attached to the back of Quirell's head. They planted a special ladle in the punch bowl that would transport Harry to a graveyard where he would meet Voldemort face to face so that Voldemort could essentially kill him. That plan didn't work very well when Cedric got mad at Harry and went to hit him with the punch ladle. They were both transported to the graveyard where Cedric was killed immediately. Low and behold, Voldemort comes back and Harry isn't killed, but returns to Hogwarts with Cedric's body screaming: "HE'S BACK, VOLDEMORT IS BACK!" That is the end of Act 1, minus all of the good punchlines and jokes that would only be funny if you were watching the musical.
     Act 2 is when things start to get a little darker and more serious. Harry knows that he has to defeat Voldemort...AGAIN. The problem is, nobody believes Harry when he says that Voldemort is back (that sounds familiar, oh yeah, Harry Potter and the Order Of The Phoenix). Of course, since nobody listened to Harry, Voldemort rises to power and needs to get into Hogwarts. Who better than to help him then good old Professor Snape and Draco Malfoy. Dumbledore tells Harry that the only way to destroy Voldemort is to destroy all of the Horcruxes. Conveniently, he has destroyed 6 of them for Harry already so he only has to find the last one. Draco is ordered to kill Dumbledore, but is to cowardly to do the job, so it falls onto Snape to complete the task. Long story short, Voldemort gets into Hogwarts and starts taking over, giving Harry very little time to figure out his game plan. Harry decides that the only way to save his friends is to go die. When Harry tries to get Voldemort to kill him, he finds Dumbledore halfway in between heaven and real life. He tells him that Harry was the last Horcrux and that he was still alive. Harry then goes back to Hogwarts to go save his friends and classmates from Voldemort. The other students, including Ron, Hermione, Draco, Neville, etc. are all barricading the door from Voldemort, yet somehow Harry gets in the room. Voldemort then just walks around the door (literally) and sees that Harry is standing there. While in half heaven half life, Harry learned that the only way to keep himself and his friends alive is to create a love shield, blocking Voldemort's dark powers, just like Harry's mom did to save him. The shield worked and the killing curse was bounced off of Harry and instead killed Voldemort. In the end, everything ended happily ever after!
     I love this musical, and personally it is my favorite of the Harry Potter trilogy that Starkid created. Yes, it is cheese and you cant really hear them because they didn't have microphones while performing the show. But their passion to make it the best show was so high that nothing else even mattered. The songs in this musical were all written by Darren Criss, who played Harry, and AJ Holmes, who plays the piano in the live band.

Airport For Birds [And Other Great Ideas]

Team Starkid has done it again! They have made the internet crash from their sheer awesomeness. What I mean is, Starkid recently created a sketch comedy show called Airport For Birds. The show ran every Sunday at the Up Comedy Club in Chicago starting January 27- March 31. Airport For Birds was a completely random show of useless things, just like the name. I was one of the fortunate people to get to watch the show from the comfort of my room for a measly price of $9.00. The show was great, at least the parts that we could actually watch! The show was lagging the entire time and it would cut off at certain parts, usually the punch line of the jokes. Since it was lagging the video and audio didn't match up which meant the skit usually didn't make and sense. I was still grateful that they even tried to help show the people who couldn't make it to Chicago, despite the technical difficulties. Since Team Starkid are always generous, they are sending out and email to everyone who bought a ticket to watch the show, unedited, non-lagging, and completely FREE! Thanks Team Starkid!!

Getting Started: Welcome!

Hi, my name is Hannah and I am a Starkid! Well, not exactly, but I am a Team Starkid fan! Team Starkid is a musical theater company that is based in Chicago. They were "created" when the members were just students at the University Of Michigan in 2009. The "creators" of Team Starkid are Darren Criss (also known as Blaine from Glee), Matt Lang, Nick Lang, and Brian Holden. Team Starkid performed their first musical "Harry Potter: The Musical" as a project for their collage acting class. The musical was posted on Youtube and it went big! Sadly, the musical was taken down due to copyright issues. Within a few months, the issue was fixed and "A Very Potter Musical" was put back on YouTube. Since then Team Starkid has had 6 musicals, 1 web series, 2 American tours and a new musical coming out in July 2013.
